Langhorne Creek

In October 2016, Sustaining Endeavour established a recycling and rebate service to Growers in the Langhorne Creek region for their old drip tube and vine guards with the aim of supporting Australian manufacturing jobs within a circular economy framework and tracking regional recycling outcomes. Sustaining Endeavour ensured Growers plastic waste was recycled by Adelaide based Plastics Granulating Services, PGS.

Thanks to the recycling efforts of Rosemount Wines vineyard staff, just over one tonne of light weight vine guards were recycled through Sustaining Endeavour resulting in $73.50 being raised for the Nature Play project at the Eastern Fleurieu School Langhorne Creek R-6 Campus.

One tonne of vine guards equates to just over eight thousand vine guards so this is an important recycling result given the light weight nature of vine-guards that makes them vulnerable to becoming windborne if not correctly recycled. Wind born light weight plastic can enter parts of the environment it shouldn’t, e.g. creeks and waterways, if it isn’t collected and stored correctly at end-of-life for recycling. In August 2017 a Recycling and Rebate Certificate was presented to Linley Morros, Vineyard Superviser at Treasury Estate Wines Langhorne Creek Vineyards
